GMP Demands the Governor of Riau to be Examined Due to the Alleged Corruption Case. Selasa, 19/01/2021 | 23:10
PEKANBARU - About 50 students who are part of the Pekanbaru Student and Youth Movement (GMP) held a protest in front of The Attorney General's Office, on Tuesday (19/12021).
They asked the investigators to summon and examine the Governor of Riau, Syamsuar, regarding the alleged corruption case of the Siak Development Planning Agency at Sub-National Level (Bappeda) routine budget, from 2014 to 2017.
According to Robby Kurniawan, the Field Coordinator (Korlap) of GMP Pekanbaru, it is suspicious if Syamsuar, who was the Regent of Siak at that time, did not know about the budget cuts done by his staff, that is YP as the Budget User (PA).
Moreover, when Syamsuar was elected as Governor of Riau, YP also was brought to Pekanbaru to take up the position of Regional Secretary of Riau.
"It would be impossible if the Siak Regent at that time, Mr Syamsuar, is not aware of any signs of corruption by his staff, YP. We asked the investigator to examine Mr Syamsuar who is now the Governor of Riau," said Robby.
Apart from the Governor of Riau Syamsuar, the demonstrators also urged to examine several people suspected of being involved in the case, such as Indra Gunawan, Yurnalis and Ikhsan.
Public Relations (Humas) of Riau Attorney General's Office, Muspidauan said, the investigation of the alleged corruption case in Siak Regency is coming to an end with the arresting of YP, the suspect.
The reason was that YP, who at that time served as Head of Siak Development Planning Agency at Sub-National Level (Bappeda), was the one who was responsible for acts of corruption that cost the state up to Rp1.8 billion.
"The suspect is the Head of Bapedda, who is none other than a budget user," he explained.
Muspidauan added that YP himself has become a suspect and has been arrested. The first arrest happened on December 20, 2020. After 20 days, investigators extended YP's detention to another 40 days. *** / ye
