PEKANBARU - The billboard panel that is located in front of Riau Attorney General’s Office building is displaying cigarette advertisements.

The Mayor of Pekanbaru, Dr H Firdaus ST MT, was issued a legal notice by the Non-Smoking Community.

"On behalf of our client, we have filed a legal notice to the Mayor of Pekanbaru, so that the billboard panel in front of the Riau Attorney General’s Office Building is dismantled," said Supriadi Bone, SH, C.L.A, attorney of the Non-Smoking Communities.

In the subpoena dated January 22, 2021, the lawyer from the Law Office Supriadi Bone, SH, C.L.A. & Group then explained why his client, named Rinaldi, issued a legal notice to the Mayor of Pekanbaru.

"Based on the information from our client, there are still cigarette advertisements in the form of a billboard panel on the main street of Jenderal Sudirman Pekanbaru. To be precise in the front of Riau Attorney General’s Office building," said Supriadi.

Then, the cigarette advertisements that aired on the billboard panel in front of Riau Attorney General’s Office building is complained by the public, especially those who use motorbikes, because its light disturbed the view of the rider.

"In addition, based on Pekanbaru Mayor Circular Number 805 / DPD / XII / 2015 which follows up on Pekanbaru Mayor Regulation Number 39 Year 2014 which regulates Smoking Ad-Free Areas, there are five roads in Pekanbaru City that must be free of cigarette advertisements: Pattimura, Tuanku Tambusai, Riau, Arifin Ahmad, and Jenderal Sudirman," said Supriadi.

Based on the descriptions above, said Supriadi, if he does not want to cause other legal consequences in this matter, the Mayor of Pekanbaru is asked to immediately take firm action on the cigarette advertisements.

"If within a week from the letter received today this is not taken care of, our client will take legal action, and report this matter to the competent institution," concluded Supriadi Bone. *** / ril
